“It wasn’t what motivated me to get involved, but who! About three years ago, Chief Human Resources Officer Greg Troy asked me to check out some of the meetings that Darlene Smith, VP and General Manager of Air Vehicles and MRO, had started having with a small group of women from Aerosystems. Around that time, I had also heard about the ‘Lean In’ movement created by Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s COO. This movement explores issues women face in the workplace and how we sometimes hold ourselves back in our careers. I thought this topic would be great for the group to explore and we started having a book discussion, which is how I became more involved. From there, a colleague and I took on more responsibility for the Bloomfield, Connecticut group by adding structure and workshops until the group folded in under the WALK initiative.”
